1999 Bay Horse

Tough Game is by the World Class Sire and Sire of Sires Mr. Greeley. Currently the sire of 20 Graded/Group I winners, Mr. Greeley offers an exceptional combination of speed, class, durability and consistency to his offspring. He is also impressive in that his foals win short and long, dirt or turf. They also are adapting well to the new synthetic surfaces. Some of Mr. Greeley's top runners are Saiorse Abu, Finsceal Beo (IRE), Nonsuch Bay and Greeley's Conquest. Two of Mr. Greeley's top GSW's El Corredor and Whywhywhy are now making their mark as stallions. El Corredor is the sire of such phenomenal runners as Adieu (GI), Dominican (GI), Backseat Rhythm (GI) and El Gato Malo (GIII), while Whywhywhy ended his freshman year with Breeder's Cup Juvenile Turf winner Nownownow.

Tough Game is out of the stakes winning mare Explosive Scarlet. By Explodent and out of a daughter of major speed influence Crimson Satan, Explosive Scarlet earned over $117,000 and was an exceptionally precocious 2 year old runner. Her first foal was stakes winner Sweet Baby James, a colt by Housebuster that was an excellent older horse, winning the Cicero Handicap and ending his career with earnings of $363,860. Her second foal was the Prized colt R. Little Redhead, a hard running stakes placed earner of $388,134.

Tough Game lived up to his big brothers' ways, earning over $300,000 in his career. He had exceptional heart and durability, winning or placing in 19 of his 27 starts. In his best year, Tough Game equaled the track record at Hollywood Park, six furlongs in 1:07.52. His wins were from six furlongs to a mile and an eighth. Tough Game also ran fourth in the G2 Pat O'Brien Handicap at Del Mar to MGSW Disturbingthepeace, SP Rushin' To Altar and MSW Full Moon Madness. Some of the top class horses Tough Game has defeated include MGSW Pohave (Triple Bend Breeder's Cup Invit. Hcp. As a yearling, Tough Game sold for $270,000 at the Fasig Tipton July sale in KY. Keep in mind that in 2000, Mr. Greeley's average yearling sales price was $40,000. Tough Game was the 3rd highest selling Mr. Greeley yearling of the year. This points to his good looks, athletic build and correct conformation.
